What is gravity? What if I told you that through understanding the importance of gravity in our life, we can create a powerful ally to help us with so many of our problems that we attribute to aging but really it is a lifestyle problem. “NASA has determined that the factor of one’s ability to withstand and respond to unusual challenges is not chronological age—rather, the critical factor is how healthy and active of a life one leads” (Vernikos, J, 2011. p. vi). What are the factors of being healthy? We know of some of the basics—eating healthy, living within moderation, or as the Buddhist and Hellenistic people might call it, living within the Golden Mean.
As I grow older, I experience that the most important factor for me is my movement practice of Continuum Movement (CM). The fluid movement of CM allows my body to feel its aliveness and flow. It allows me to move with flowing pleasure instead of from a place of being locked down, stuck, and swollen (inflammation). Currently, I have been having a lot of fun adding in playing with gravity. Emilie Conrad, the founder of CM, brought in the importance of playing with gravity in the 1990’s with her Explore Boards, the Web, and chair work. Today, even more has been learned about gravity, mostly through humanity’s desire to adventure out into the universe with our space travel. I hope you will join me in this virtual series that will be a playful travel into our inner space, inviting gravity to be our ally.
