Softening the Inhibitors

Event Details

This event finished on 02 October 2023

Emilie often used the phrase “softening the inhibitors” to describe one of the primary offerings of Continuum – to bring awareness to places of “hardening” in how we approach movement and engage with the discovery processes of a yielding to “softening.” If we consider “the body” as a unified moving whole, then we may ask, “What gets in the way of movement?” Whether it’s our familiar patterns of thought, “scripts,” or movement that falls into predictable patterns set through repetitive, linear actions, we’ll explore new pathways of learning “on the edge of now,” as open systems capable of self-renewal. These are interactive classes with opportunities for dialogue and dives as we explore these themes together.

Sessions are open to those new to Continuum, however participation in Intro, “Becoming the Water,” is recommended before registering for this series. In each of the classes we will work with the foundational elements of Continuum – breath, sound, sensation and movement.

“When not restricted by its inhibitors, the bio-intelligence will naturally be guided by what I feel is a developmental template. It’s almost as if our current structure has been ‘stopped in time,’ and when liberated continues on its course, the way the embryo continues in its already seeded growth.” Emilie Conrad
