True navigation begins in the human heart. It’s the most important map of all. Elizabeth Kapu’uwailani Lindsey The human heart has captivated philosophers, artists, scientists, and poets for eons. It is at once an organ that is essential to life, and the “home” of energetic and emotional qualities essential to humanity: Love, caring, sadness, and more. It is an organized system; a feeling and perhaps thinking brain, and the source of emergent behavior. Continuum Movement combines sound-streams, breath and simple movement sequences. This class will explore the helical heart as an inspiration for our movement. Drawing on Stephen Porges polyvagal theory we apply neuroscience to the hearts crucial role in human emotion, coherence, connection, creativity and social engagement as we dance its spiral dance.
