In another time and place Elaine would be a temple dancer but in this world she is a massage therapist, movement teacher, dancer, choreographer and authorized Continuum Movement teacher. Discovering Continuum was like finding her true home, where the art and science of movement merge, excite and inform each other. Elaine offers weekly and weekend workshops in her studio, which is a haven for fellow somatic explorers. Elaine’s primary interest is in the alchemy of movement; how movement, breath and sound inform us and alter us internally and how the internal changes permeate and manifest in the outer world. The transforming effects of movement have always guided her and led to the study of many forms of dance, the creation of original dance theater productions and the study of various movement and bodywork practices. Elaine has an undergraduate degree in psychology (1977), a M.A. from Columbia University in dance (1982), and was certified by the Muscular Therapy Institute (1988). Influential teachers include Irene Dowd (anatomy), Robert Ellis Dunn (choreography), Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen (Body-Mind Centering), Susan Harper (Continuum Montage), and Emilie Conrad (Continuum Movement). Her clients and students as well as health challenges have also served as primary teachers. |
